The Embassy of Sri Lanka in collaboration with several Italian and Sri Lankan partners will launch a series of events in Rome reflecting Sri Lanka’s Cuisine, Culture and Music at prestigious venues in Rome in the first week of December this year.

With the ‘Sounds and Flavours of Sri Lanka’ — culinary festival, a unique dining experience unveils at the prestigious Westin Excelsior, Rome from 3-12 December. Gourmet Sri Lankan cuisine prepared by the Chefs of Amaya Resorts and Spas joined by the Chefs at Westin Excelsior will be on offer in the refined ambiance and savory abundance of the famous Ristorante Doney — voted UK’s Top

The Sri Lankan culinary experience in Rome includes, Lunch and Dinner at Ristorante Doney together with the exquisite afternoon High Tea tradition at the ORVM Lounge and H Club. The evenings will be accompanied by Sri Lanka’s renowned Channa-Upuli Dance Ensemble specially flown in for these events. Adding to the exotic experience is the service of a traditional Ayurveda masseur from Sri Lanka who will provide patrons of Westin Excelsior complementary foot and shoulder massage.

On Monday, 6 December, at Rome’s famous Vascello Theatre, the Channa-Upuli Dance Ensemble will perform a finely choreographed presentation of ‘Thala – Splendours of Sri Lanka’ for an entirely Italian audience. The event will be a wonderful exposition of Sri Lankan dance and will showcase Sri Lanka’s diverse culture and dance — a tribute to the discerning Italian public. The show for its quality and rarity is expected to draw in a full house.

For the first time ever in Rome, Channa Wijewardena and his troupe will conduct a dance Workshop on Sri Lankan dance at the prestigious Teatro Dell’ Opera – Rome’s foremost Ballet theatre and school. Targeting accomplished students of ballet, the event will be a concrete programme to share with the semi-professional Italian ballet student the rich and vibrant traditions of Sri Lankan dance.

The events are designed to reach out specifically to the Italian public and provide greater visibility to Sri Lanka including as a rich and exciting tourist destination.

Importantly, these seminal events attracting the Italian public are a concrete reflection of the various partnerships being established between Sri Lankan and Italian institutions and companies — an important element of contemporary bilateral engagement between Italy and Sri Lanka.

Several Sri Lankan and Italian partners including Sri Lanka Tourism, Sri Lanka Airlines, Amaya Resorts & Spas, and Mlesna Tea joins hands with the Embassy of Sri Lanka and The Westin Excelsior in these seminal events in Rome.
