NEW DELHI: Forty one students from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka received medals, cash prizes and merit certificates for their outstanding performance in the Ignou-UNESCO Science Olympiad 2010 on the occasion of Children’s Day on Sunday.
Five toppers received awards of excellence for their overall performance which includes Md H Rahman from Hyderabad, Chelvaniththilan Sivabalan from Jaffna, Jeevana Priya from Hyderabad, Govind K. from Tiruvananthapuram, and Ayush Singhal from Jaipur in the order of rank 1st to 5th.
Facilitating the winners, VC of Ignou, V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai said: ‘’The key objectives of the Olympiad, organised by Ignou and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) are to provide young people from the SAARC region with a unique competitive platform where they can prove themselves.
