Ninety five per cent of the construction work of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant has been completed and the entire project will be completed by January 2011.
After the completion of the first phase of the project, the power plant would provide around 300 MW to the national grid which is 17% of the consumer requirement. The second phase of the project has also commenced and it will add 600 MW to the national grid.
The government of China has provided USD 455mn for this task which was initiated in July 2007. Sri Lanka has allocated Rs.300mn which is the balance amount. (www.info.gov.lk)
