The Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign has had a good start with an increase of 6,843 visitors already, in January. A total of 32,914 tourists visited Nepal in the first month of the year, a 26.2% increase to the arrival figures for the same period last year.

The Nepal Government’s tourist arrival figures have shown a substantial increase in inbound tourists from the major targetted markets of India and China, which made up 24% and 9.7% respectively of the total arrivals. Ram Kazi Koney, tourism entrepreneur, was quoted in eTurbo News as having said that the significant growth in Chinese and Indian tourists could be attributed to increased air accessibility.

Nepal has seen a steady growth in international visitor arrivals since June 2009, which is attributed to a rising confidence among visitors and tour operators to the country.
