A "Mobile Library Service" is to be launched in Jaffna today, (7 October) funded by the European Union.
The service will be operated by the Public Library and will visit each educational zone once in every four weeks. This service which will be for an initial period of six months is expected to benefit thousands of children from over 100 schools in the five education zones.
The Mobile Library Service will function as a lending library for children of all ages. The aim of this venture is to provide better access to publications and educational material to those who have little or no access to library services. It is also a means to create awareness not only among the children, but also among principals, teachers and parents on the importance and value of education.
This is yet another opportunity to further enhance their knowledge and provide benefits to the children who were affected directly or indirectly by the conflict, which came to an end last year.
