Alpha Orient Lanka Limited, a member of the world’s number one travel retailer as well as the leading duty free merchant at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), recently concluded their Christmas and New Year mega promotion successfully.

The mega promotion coincided with the BIA Shopping Festival which was held for the first time in the history of the airport. On completion of the promotion, a raffle draw was held with the patronage of Kamal Ratwatte, the Deputy Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited.

The grand winner of the raffle draw will walk away with a Rolex Submariner Watch worth more than Rs.1 million.  In addition to the grand prize, 160 Nos. of 22 karat gold coins and 14 Nos. 22 karat gold sovereigns were given away on a daily and weekly basis, throughout the 3 month promotion period. To stand a chance to win all these valuable prizes, customers had to spend US$ 60 on selected products at Alpha Orient Lanka Arrival and Departure duty free shops.

Alpha Orient Lanka CEO Dimantha Kinigama says: “With an estimated 5.3 million passengers passing through Colombo international airport, The Rolex Christmas campaign was another highlight of Alpha Orient Lanka Duty Free promotion activity, which attracted overwhelming passenger interest and interactions across all our product categories.

Together with the BIA departure promotion launch; this promotion was an activation that involved the airport and support from our brands. The intention was to communicate our competitive pricing, unique offers and our extensive product range more effectively via such “Mega” promotions. This campaign also demonstrates our ability to offer promotions that offer maximum value-addition to the returning Sri Lankan when compared to other leading airports in the region.

Our approach in converting and engaging the consumer is paying off.  With the aim of supporting the Visit Sri Lanka 2011 Campaign and the Cricket World cup, we have planned a series of aggressive; interactive promotions which are set to entice the BIA passengers even more this year, ensuring BIA become a well sought-after “shopping destination” in line with the vision of Airport and Aviation Services of Sri Lanka.”
