President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid a floral tribute to the statue of D.A. Rajapaksa in Tangalle yesterday in commemoration of his late father’s 43rd death anniversary.
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and son MP Namal Rajapaksa accompanied the President.
The late Sri Lanka Freedom Party founder and veteran politician’s sons Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, and Minister Basil Rajapaksa also participated in the remembrance.
Senior Lecturer of the Kelaniya University Dr. D. M. Ajith Dissanayake delivered the D. A. Rajapaksa memorial lecture at the ceremony held in the Tangalle Town Hall.
The President awarded 100 prizes and scholarships to school children and university students at the ceremony.
An all night Pirith chanting will be held in President’s ancestral home in Medamulana today and an almsgiving for the Maha Sangha will be held tomorrow.
A number of ministers, parliamentarians and other government officials also participated in the commemoration ceremony.
