The senior Ladies’ College water polo team had an outstanding year, winning all their tournaments during the entire season.

Under the guidance of coaches Bilal Hassen and Awnee Razak, and led by the diminutive but determined Enakshi Wikramanayake, the team has made incredible progress and has earned the reputation as the strongest women’s team in the country.

Their season got off to a flying start as they won the coveted M.N. Edurusuriya Challenge Cup at the 7th LC-VV encounter, winning by a convincing 5-2 margin. They emerged champions at the U-20 Water Polo Tournament beating Bishop’s College 7-5 and achieving an emphatic 5-0 victory against Visaka Vidyalaya in the finals.

The highlight of this successful season was the National Women’s Water Polo Championships where Ladies’ College beat Navy 5-3 to advance to the finals where they triumphed 3-2 over Visaka Vidyalaya. The team also won the Inter Schools Water Polo Tournament, thus completing their string of victories.

At the end of a fantastic season the total tally of goals stands with Ladies’ College at 13 goals and Visaka Vidyalaya chalking up a total of 4. Sachini Rajanayake performed with consistent brilliance throughout the year whilst the rest of the team made up this winning team. “This accomplishment is due to months of hard work and grueling training and the result of a combined effort and vision of a united ‘dream team’,” said Enakshi Wikramanayake.
