Consequent to President Mahinda Rajapaksa swearing-in for a second term Lalith Weeratunga who functioned as the Secretary to the President during President Rajapaksa’s first term has been reappointed as the Secretary to the President, and Gamini S. Senarath has been appointed as the Chief of Staff.
Both appointments are effective from 19 November.
Lalith Weeratunga, was first appointed the Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka in 2005 when Mahinda Rajapaksa became the President. Weeratunga received his primary education at Rahula College, Matara before moving to Royal College Colombo for his secondary education, he is a graduate from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya . A career SLAS officer, he was appointed the Secretary to the Prime Minister when Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed as the Prime Minister following the 2004 parliamentary general election.
Chief of the Presidential Staff Gamini Senarath had been promoted to the level of a Ministry Secretary following a unanimous decision taken by the then new Cabinet of Ministers at its maiden meeting during the first term of the President. A past pupil of Rahula College, Matara and Richmond College, Galle and an Honours Graduate of the Kelaniya University and having his Post Graduate qualification in Computer Science from the Colombo University, Senarath is a senior SLAS officer who has held many senior public service posts - Pix by Sudath Silva
