Fulfilling a much-needed requirement to recognise institutions in the agricultural business area, the annual Agribusiness Awards was organised by the National Agribusiness Council. It was held for the seventh consecutive year concurrently with the Ag-Biz Trade fair on 8 July at the BMICH.
The National Gold Award was won by Kurunegala Plantations Limited for its outstanding performance during last year as a State-owned organisation. The Silver award went to HJS Condiments (Pvt) Ltd. for its remarkable growth along with earning foreign exchange to the country.
CIC Feeds (Pvt) Ltd. won the Bronze award for serving the animal husbandry sector with quality feeds. A Special Merit award was won by Jinasena (Pvt) Ltd. for its outstanding innovation of ‘Processed Tea Cutter’.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana was the Chief Guest. Dr. D.B.T. Wijeratne, Add. Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Director General of Agriculture K.G. Sriyapala, Harin Malwatte, CEO/Secretary General of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and many distinguished invitees graced the occasion.
The National Agribusiness Awards are in recognition of performance and contribution by the formal business sector towards the development of agribusiness in Sri Lanka. The awards were sector based, grouped in to Small, Medium and Large Categories while segmented in to the sectors of Input Suppliers, Services, Producers, Processors and Marketers.
The selections were made by the competent panel of judges based on business overview, financial management, human resource management, social impact and sector specific performance.
