Sri Lanka’s own Cola drink brand KIK Cola announced its sponsorship of the 82nd ‘Battle of the Maroons’ the annual cricket encounter played between Ananda College and Nalanda College.
The ‘Big Match’ was initiated between the two brotherly schools with the aim of building relations between the two institutions and developing their cricket in the sporting arena. The matches are played with much pride and fanfare and are an eagerly awaited and cherished event for both the schools.
A fine tradition was built up over the decades while the cricketing abilities of both schools grew surpassing other cricket playing schools in the country.
Speaking about the sponsorship Chandima Perera, Head of Beverages – Elephant House and Vice President of John Keells Holdings said: “KIK Cola is a very vibrant and youthful brand that is deeply rooted in Sri Lankan values yet contemporary with a global appeal. With this in mind we are proud to be the sponsor of such a fine cricketing encounter and wish both teams the very best. This year’s encounter will be played on 5 and 6 March 2011 at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) grounds and for the first time in Sri Lanka will see a fully automated ticketing system used to track ticket validity, number of spectators at the grounds, arrival and departure of ticket holders, etc. e-tickets for the match will also be available on www.battleofthemaroons.lk.
