Reuters: Prices of Kenyan tea rose slightly at Tuesday’s sale with the cream of the Broken Pekoe Ones (BP1s) grade fetching an average $3.88 per kg from $3.80 at the previous sale, brokers said on Tuesday.

Best BP1s TEABP1-BEST-KE sold for $4.10-$3.65 from $4.16-$3.44 at the first sale this year.

Africa Tea Brokers (ATB) said in a regular market report that there had been strong demand for all categories on offer with prices closely following quality.

“Pakistan Packers were dominant while Egyptian Packers, Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries lent strong support and Afghanistan made a forceful re-entry,” ATB said.

Best Pekoe Fanning Ones TEAPF1-BEST-KE went for $4.08-$3.50 per kg from $4.07-$3.50 previously.

Only 4.36 percent of the 111,660 packages that had been put up for sale were left without buyers, ATB said.
