Jetwing Vil Uyana celebrates four years of success

This week Jetwing Vil Uyana celebrates for the fourth time a monumental task that many considered impossible at the time:

constructing the world’s first eco hotel over a man made wetland. In a remarkable twist from traditional practices, where land is cleared for buildings, a 24 acre plot of dry land merely 5 km away from the 8th Wonder of the World, Sigiriya was painstakingly converted into a wetland resort, fitting in with the tremendous engineering feat that created Sigiriya.

Four years have passed since the first stone was laid, and in that time Jetwing Vil Uyana has surpassed expectations, and has welcomed guests from all over the world, and Mother Nature itself, by being a private nature reserve, which plays host to over 70 species of birds, 30 species of butterflies and 25 species of dragonfly, as well as its very own marsh crocodile which inhabits the hotel lake! New arrivals keep coming, as recently the very rare grey slender loris was spotted within the hotel grounds, having made his home there! Guests at Jetwing Vil Uyana have marvelled at its uniqueness, be it the cuisine, the peaceful and calm solitude, and the one of a kind lavishness of the dwellings. Divided into 4 distinct habitats, namely Paddy, Marsh, Forest and Water, the dwellings complement the environment around perfectly, enhancing the experience of being one with nature.

However, for the active traveller there are many diversions, such as Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife event, The Gathering of the Elephants which takes place in the Minneriya National Wildlife Park during the months of September and October.  Witness over two hundred of these majestic beasts, in their families, come together at the receding shores of the Minneriya tank, a picture that has been widely described as being reminiscent of human behaviour. Being located inside the cultural triangle, Jetwing Vil Uyana allows easy access to ancient cities such as Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, being only an hour’s drive away, as well as King Kashyappa’s awe inspiring fortress cum palace of Sigiriya, a miracle of ancient engineering.

“We welcome you to join us in wishing Jetwing Vil Uyana a very happy 4th birthday, and please do not worry about bringing fruits and flowers! Experience the very first truly eco lifestyle hotel in an atmosphere that defies description, and must be seen to be truly believed,” a Jetwing spokesperson said.
