Janashakthi launches unique sports insurance policy

Janashakthi Insurance Plc recently launched a unique sports insurance policy, for the benefit of all sportsmen and women in Sri Lanka providing a range of benefits including personal accident cover on sports injuries, hospitalisation due to sports injuries, home nursing expenses, student benefit assistance, parent inconvenience benefit and physiotherapy cover.

This novel protection plan for sports persons covers a wide range of sports including rugby, hockey, football, cricket, athletics, badminton, basketball, indoor cricket, running, snooker, cycling, golf, gymnastics, marathon running, netball, rowing, squash, surfing, swimming, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, walking (race only), water polo and wheel chair-tennis/basketball.

In its wide ranging scope, this policy protects a sportsperson upto Rs. 25 m from accidental death, total permanent disability and permanent partial disability. In addition to this is a medical cover of Rs. 100,000 for hospitalisation arising out of an accident while the insured is participating in sports activity, training or practices organised/arranged by the insured or any other official body, and, when travelling to and from such activity.

Janashakthi’s Head of Marketing Paddy Weerasekera said: “We understand the serious risks involved in sports of all kinds … hence the launch of this policy. With the high cost of medical attention, we’re happy to offer sportspersons and their families, peace of mind in the event of an emergency. We’re not only reaching out to individuals but also to the sports teams of schools, universities, other education institutions, sports clubs and sports associations.”

Among the additional benefits of Janashakthi’s sports insurance policy are student assistance, home nursing expenses, parents’ Inconvenience and physiotherapy.

As part of student assistance, the policy pays for expenses incurred and paid by the insured’s parents or guardian for the services related to, education, schooling, home tutoring, special tutoring and special equipment required by the student to continue with his studies even while recuperating at home.

It also pays for home nursing expenses – these are expenses incurred and paid by the insured for services related to home duties to a recognised home nursing agency.

The parents’ inconvenience allowance includes reimbursement of expenses to visit an insured who is hospitalised due to sports injury indicated in the policy. The insured also gets physiotherapy benefit covering any expenses related to physiotherapy.
