The Sri Lanka Science and Engineering Fair (SLSEF) 2010 took place recently at the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) auditorium.

This event, a prelude to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), is an opportunity for local students to showcase cutting-edge ideas and be able to compete at the global event to be held in May 2011.

Two local winners of this year’s event will represent Sri Lanka at the Intel ISEF while the other will participate as an observer. Intel will sponsor two individual projects and one group project winners along with the adult-in-charge to participate at the 63rd ISEF to be held from 8-13 May 2011 in, USA.

The Sri Lanka Science and Engineering Fair (SLSEF) is held in December each year.  The competitors for this fair will be selected from the Science Research Project competition of National Science Foundation (NSF) of Sri Lanka in November each year and the Junior Inventor of the Year (JIY) competition of Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) in October each year.

The 10 best projects of each of the above two competitions of NSF and IESL will compete together at the SLSEF competition.

Intel ISEF, the world’s largest pre-college science competition, brings together thousands of young scientists to share ideas, showcase cutting-edge science, and compete for scholarships.

Intel advances math, science, and engineering education, as well as research, to encourage and empower the innovators of tomorrow. In 2010, Intel ISEF brought together more than 1,600 young scientists from over 59 countries, regions, and territories and awarded US$ 4 million in scholarships.

Intel, the world leader in silicon innovation, develops technologies, products and initiatives to continually advance how people work and live.
