Import tax on milk powder cut

The Government has reduced the import levy on infant milk powder by Rs. 22 per kg to Rs. 28 from Rs. 50 previously.

The move was to keep domestic retail prices intact despite rise in global markets. The country mainly depends on imports for its milk food needs as the local production meets only 35 percent of its need.  On Monday the Government also cut import tax on fuel to achieve a similar objective.
