ICTA to host FutureGov Forum next week

The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), which functions under the Presidential Secretariat, will host the first-ever FutureGov Sri Lanka 2010 Forum in Colombo, from 28 to 29 October.

The two-day forum, which makes Sri Lanka the 13th FutureGov regional forum, will focus on the e-government strategy in Sri Lanka, which is one of the most comprehensive ICT for development initiatives in the South Asian region.

Speaking about the forum, ICTA Chief Operating Officer Reshan Dewapura emphasised on the value of synergy and sharing, which become markedly available in forums like FutureGov.

“We are trying to pool together the best ideas on how to make public service in Sri Lanka more people-friendly by the use of ICT. It is in view of this that the forum brings together top officials from across the country and the region for two days of intensive knowledge exchange.”

High-level speakers will share their views and strategic consideration on the ICT at the forum. “The forum will cover the latest public administration models and strategies,” the ICTA COO added.

The forum, while being a platform for focusing on some of the biggest challenges facing national and local government administrators, will open the doors for all participants for closer interactivity with thousands of public administration experts.

This will include more than 29,000 public sector stakeholders of the eight-year-old FutureGov headquartered in Singapore, with an office in Hong Kong.

Key elements of the multi-platform community connoted by FutureGov, which is a trademark of Alphabet Media , are a trade media business specialising in the public sector include FutureGov magazine, annual FutureGov Summit, FutureGov Research – Asia’s only independent public sector research house, the FutureGov Award series, English and Chinese language online publications and FutureGov TV.

Among the distinguished speakers at this forum for better public administration tailor-designed for top public administration officials lined up are Minister of Technology and Research Tissa Vitarana, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Attorney General Mohan Peiris, Sri Lanka Central Bank Governor Ajith Cabraal and Ministry of Public Administration Secretary D. Dissanayake.

That Sri Lanka is one of the most comprehensive ICT for development initiatives in South Asia is amply proved by the great strides Sri Lanka has made in the use of ICT for people-friendly public service.

ICTA was honoured with the ‘Public Sector Organisation of the Year among SAARC countries’ award at the FutureGov Asia 2010 at Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia recently.
