In yet another noteworthy initiative, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) launched the Cambridge International Certificate in Financial English (ICFE) for the first time in Sri Lanka amidst a large gathering of members at the Institute’s Auditorium on Monday.

The Chief Guest at the ceremony was Sunimal Fernando, Senior Advisor to the President and Coordinator - English and Convener of the Presidential Task Force on English and IT; while Country Director - British Council Tony Reilly graced the Guest of Honour.

The course is aimed at aspiring finance and accountancy professionals who require the necessary skills to demonstrate that they have first-rate financial English language proficiency, and the ability to communicate confidently and efficiently within the international business community.

Therefore, to help meet the demand towards helping finance professionals demonstrate that they have the necessary financial English skills they need, the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) have combined their areas of expertise to develop ICFE.

The ICASL has thus launched this world class innovative financial English course,  in its efforts to provide its students at the Institute the best of courses, which will help make them proficient professionals who posses both the technical knowledge and also the capability to speak impeccable English with their counterparts and other seniors in the corporate world.

ICFE is primarily aimed at ICASL students at the Post Strategic level as an optional component in their curriculum.

In considering its importance of this course, and as a value addition, the ICASL which has joined hands with the British Council & the ACCA to introduce ICFE will also reimburse 75% of its course fee for the Post Strategic level students on successful completion of this qualification.

The Cambridge ICFE is an internationally recognised qualification and exams are conducted across the globe throughout the year.

For those planning a successful career in finance & accounting, this course will demonstrate to potential employers they have the skills to use English to communicate in an international financial environment. For professionals with established careers, this course can be used to certify existing language skills and provide proof of ability.

The qualification assesses English language ability at levels B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) – an internationally recognised standard of languages.
