High level Norwegian business delegation to arrive in SL

A high level business delegation from Norway will arrive in Sri Lanka early next year, Norway’s Ambassador to Colombo Ms. Hilde Haraldstad has said.

During a meeting with Sri Lanka Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne at his official residence the Norwegian Ambassador has said that her Government is prepared to expand investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.

The high level business delegation would be planning to open industries in the island, she has told the Prime Minister.  Haraldstad, has commended the government’s measures to rebuild relations between the communities and assured her government’s support.  The Prime Minister apprised the Norwegian envoy of the government’s plans that are in place to boost economic development in Sri Lanka under the President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s leadership. The Norwegian Ambassador recently signed two agreements with Swiss Foundation for Mine Action and HALO Trust extending their support to Humanitarian Demining activities in the North.  Under the agreements, the Government of Norway will provide Rs. 125 million to Swiss Foundation for Mine Action and Rs. 112 million to HALO Trust to expand their participation in the Sri Lankan Government’s Humanitarian Mine Action Programme.
