Moving from stars to sports, Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal has been appointed to head the Organising Committee for Hambantota’s bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games and is in the process of hiring a consultancy firm for advice.
Cabraal played a significant role in the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards held in Colombo in June this year.
Now he has shifted his expertise to the latest project to make Hambantota a Candidate City for the Commonwealth Games in 2018. The Organising Committee is presently in the process of preparing its bid document to secure its candidature.
The Central Bank in a press release noted that to assist the venture, President Mahinda Rajapaksa had appointed a high-level Organising Committee for the Commonwealth Games 2018 Candidate City Hambantota under the chairmanship of Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal to plan and execute the necessary work related to this bid and the games.
“The Organising Committee has now decided to engage the services of a reputed consultancy firm to advise and assist the committee in the preparation of its bid document and manage other logistics in relation to the Commonwealth Games in 2018. Accordingly, the committee will receive and evaluate Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and competent consultancy firms who have expertise and experience in the subject,” it said.
The statement added that the EOIs to be submitted by the consultancy firms would need to describe the capacity and competence of the firm in preparing a bid, and should encompass all areas and themes as specified by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
The EOIs should also clearly indicate the expertise and strength of the firm to formulate and manage a successful strategy in order to convince the CGF to accept and prequalify Hambantota as the Host City for the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
Further details regarding the submission of EOIs could be obtained from www.hambantota2018.com, the website dedicated for this purpose.
