Four Indian naval ships have arrived in Sri Lanka ports Saturday morning as a part of a joint training programme with the Sri Lanka Navy.
The Indian ships INS Tir , INS Shardul and ICGS Varuna arrived at the port of Trincomalee while INS Tarangini arrived at the Port of Colombo, the Sri Lanka Navy announced. The ships were given a ceremonial welcome by the Sri Lanka Navy and are scheduled to stay in Sri Lanka till 15 October.
A group of 160 visiting Indian naval officer cadets is scheduled to participate in a series of training programmes organised by the Sri Lanka Navy during the course of their six day stay. A group of 150 Sri Lankan naval officers, who are under training at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee, are to board the Indian ships for a session of sea training, the Sri Lanka Navy informed.
The joint exercise is aimed at improving the relationship between the navies of the two neighbouring countries.
