The Long Feng restaurant at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo has sparked a fascination in Singaporean cuisine amongst diners in Colombo. This month the hotel indulges this fascination with a Singaporean Hawker Street style feast.

Singaporean street food is reflective of the country’s culturally diverse ethnic makeup. Its greatest influence arrives from China, with hints of Indonesian, Indian, Thai, Middle Eastern and even English cuisine resulting from the founding of the city by the British in the 1800s.

Traditionally a hawker would have referred to a casual street vendor, but in modern day Singapore, hawker centers host numerous stalls serving an array of ‘street’ dishes. Cinnamon Lakeside’s offering is a similar concept – reasonably priced food in convenient servings with one distinction: the food will be prepared by the Long Feng team headed by their award winning Head Chef, Qiu Zhi Qiang, known to friends of the restaurant as Chef Jason. He is renowned for his flair for star quality Singaporean style cuisine, an art he began mastering from the youthful age of 16.

Chef Jason recommends a playful approach to the Hawker Street Feast. The food is designed such that it can be enjoyed whilst strolling along the length of the hotel’s Terrace taking in the diverse range on offer, or to be shared amongst company, allowing one to sample as many of the dishes as possible.

Guests get the chance to savour everything from tom yam gong, Cantonese roast duck, vegetable spring rolls, mutton samosas, lamb in black pepper sauce, Singapore chillie prawns, chicken rendang, tofu goreng with peanut sauce and black pepper crab to Indian biriyani and naan.

The promotion also gives guests the opportunity to tuck into rare Singaporean desserts such as sago gula Malacca, lychees in sweet coconut cream, agar with fruits, mango barley nut, melon soup and fresh fruit chunks on ice. Singaporean thirst quenchers, ice boku and ice lemon tea offer added variety to the fascinating menu.

The Hawker Street Feast will take place at the Terrace at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo. Limited to two days, 19 and 20 May from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., this promotion is another must try from Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo. As is the case with many such promotions, places fill up fast so making an early reservation, by calling 2491998, is advised.
