THE Sri Lanka Freedom Employees’ Union affiliated to the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party has made a request from the President Mahinda Rajapaksa urging his government to take over the Pelwatte Sugar Industries.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Employees’ Union unit of Pelwatte Sugar Industries has made this request through a petition with 3,000 signatures.

The union charges that the company denigrated as a result of financial wastage and huge investments in the unsuccessful businesses.

The union also criticized the way the employments are given in the dairy and food processing factories set up by the company.

They charge that the company had not granted job opportunities to the people in the area as promised.  The Company is known for production of high quality Brown Sugar, Potable Alcohol (ethyl) and Bio Compost. (Colombo Page)
