‘Damasiswa Scholarship’ from Indonesian Government

The Indonesian Government is offering ‘Damasiswa’ Scholarships to the people of Sri Lanka who aspire to learn about Indonesian Arts, Culture and Language in one of the 47 universities in Indonesia.

The programme, which aims at encouraging better cultural understanding, will facilitate the participants to learn the uniqueness of Indonesian arts and culture and give participants the chance to experience Indonesia.

The fields of studies are Bahasa Indonesia, gamelan music, dance art, music art, ethnomusicology, puppetry, culinary, applied art, handicraft, photography, and batik art.

There are two kinds of Darmasiswa programmes. One is a one year programme, and the other is a six-month programme. This scholarship offers a full tuition fee, and monthly allowance. However, the Darmasiswa RI does not cover flight costs from the country of origin to Indonesia and vice versa.

The submission of applications is due by the end of January 2011 through the Indonesian Embassy in Colombo, 400/50 Sarana Road, Colombo 7. The announcement of the scholarship recipient will be in the beginning of April 2011. The programme will start from August 2010. Certain universities may start the course in July 2011.

Candidates should have completed secondary education, be proficient in English, be not more than 35 years of age and be in good health. Together with the completed application candidates are required to send five passport size photographs, copy of passport valid for at least 18 months from their arrival in Indonesia.
