DIMO excels at Sustainability Awards 2011

Diesel & Motor Engineering Plc (DIMO) was adjudged the Joint Winner for the Medium Scale Category at the 7th annual ACCA Sri Lanka Awards for Sustainability Reporting 2010, held recently at the Cinnamon Grand hotel with the presence of the Nobel Prize Winner Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, as the chief guest.

On this occasion DIMO was once again recognised as one of the most transparent corporate entities in Sri Lanka.

The ACCA awards encourage organisations to publish information on their economic, social and environmental impact and thereby highlight the importance for sustainable practices among corporates.

Sustainable entrepreneurship has always been at the core of DIMO’s corporate strategy and as an organisation they consistently strive to contribute towards enhancing the economy, preserving the environment and empowering all levels of society. With their immense commitment to these principals, DIMO has proved yet again to be a transparent and responsible corporate entity, which is among the best in Sri Lanka.

The purpose of the ACCA Sri Lanka Awards for Sustainability Reporting is to reward, recognise, encourage and raise awareness of responsible corporate entities that create an impact on the environment and society.

Towards this purpose, the judging panel assessed three key criteria’s — Completeness, Credibility and Communication in deciding the winners. The continuing and important need for concern for sustainability being highlighted in the statement by the Chairman and MD of DIMO, Ranjith Pandithage, was one of the key points which led to winning this prestigious award.

The process of sustainability management at DIMO starts with each business unit identifying the relevant sustainability objectives and initiatives that need to be included in business and operational plans. Responsibility for individual projects and initiatives are vested with the various business units, which are equipped with the resources and expertise to ensure speedy and efficient implementation of these objectives.
