As Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium exploded into pulsating World Cup action when co-hosts Sri Lanka met Pakistan in the first ‘big match’ of Group A, two lucky spectators won an upgrade to prime Grandstand seating courtesy of Emirates, an Official Partner of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Kamal Abeysinghe, Project Chairman of EDEX, the National Higher Education and Careers Expo, and his daughter were chosen at random from the thousands of spectators who packed the stands, and moved from their seats in the upper level of Block A to the Grandstand.
The Emirates upgrade is one of several activities carried out by the award-winning Dubai-based airline to enhance the spectator experience at international cricket tournaments it sponsors.
Spectators at the Quarter-final and Semi-final matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup in Colombo on 26th and 29th March will also have an opportunity to test their fielding skills at the Emirates Flying Catch, a giant inflatable fitted with a bowling machine that fires balls at varying speeds.
