CIMA Sri Lanka Board inducted for 2011

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Sri Lanka Division inducted its Board for 2011 at the Cinnamon Lakeside on 3 February.

Shiromi Rajendra, Director/General Manager of Linea Aqua Pvt. Ltd. was elected as the Chairperson of the CIMA Sri Lanka Board, whilst Dirk Pereira, CEO of Union Assurance PLC and Reyaz Mihular – Partner of KPMG Ford, Rhodes, Thornton & Co were appointed as Deputy Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively. Over 400 CIMA members attended and witnessed this event.

The newly-elected Chairperson has been a fellow member of CIMA since August 1995 and has over 20 years of post-qualifying experience in the profession.

At present, she holds the position of Director/General Manager of Linea Aqua Pvt. Ltd. A joint venture between MAS Holdings, Speedo International (UK) and Brandot International (US), Linea Aqua is one of the leading manufacturers of swim wear in the region and is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka.

Prior to this appointment in July 2010 she functioned as Director Operations and the General Manager Finance and Administration of the company since May 2004.

During her prequalifying stages, Rajendra acquired training in a variety of sectors including Kreston M N S (chartered accountants), Hatton National Bank, Ceylon Tobacco Company and the Browns Group.

On completion of her exams she joined the John Keells Group where she started as the Accountant of three subsidiaries in the financial services sector and within seven years rose to the position of Sector Financial Controller for two sectors, namely Financial Services and Leisure Inbound.

During her 11 years at JKH she served on the Boards of John Keells Stock Brokers, Waldock Mackenzie, Walkers Tours and Keells Tours.

She was a member of the task force that structured and launched the Nations Trust Bank for the Group and served on the Board Supervisory Committee of the bank in its formative years.

She lived in Australia from 2001 to 2004, during which time she worked at Australia Cement Holdings Pvt. Ltd. and at the National Roads & Motoring Association (NRMA) in NSW. She joined the CIMA Sri Lanka Board in January 2010 and was appointed the Deputy Chair and served as a member of the Member Services Committee.
