A prestigious profession for their son or daughter is the dream of every parent. Today many opportunities are available for Sri Lankan youth to pursue higher studies in top ranked universities at affordable costs, but many are still uncertain about what lies ahead in the future, post-qualification.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK is the world’s largest and most prestigious professional body for marketing. The internationally recognised marketing qualification which CIM provides is delivered at over 430 centres in 80 countries and is also available via part time study, distance learning or intensive study. The qualification is accepted by many universities and educational institutions worldwide as entry into their MBA programmes.

The CIM Sri Lanka Region is the fastest growing CIM body which serves over 3,000 studying members and more than 1500 members. The qualification aided many to elevate their professional careers while creating value and fostering excellence in Sri Lanka’s business landscape. This is helped with the harnessing of marketing knowledge and building world class competencies.

The CIM programme consists of four stages, with a syllabus formulated to meet the dynamic changes in business and enterprise environment. The current syllabus focuses on an assignment based evaluation which eventually creates practicality and strategic thinking; that helps move professional marketers to the Boardroom.  Students have the opportunity to work alongside a tutor for a period of six months in order to develop an assignment which is relevant to Sri Lanka. This therefore enhances the knowledge of the student and contributes towards making the qualification even more relevant to the local landscape.

Additionally, the CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing was initiated in 2009 with the view to provide a fast track to the CIM qualification. With this, students can start their journey with their GCE Ordinary Level qualifications. The programme is also beneficial to non-marketers who wish to familiarise themselves in marketing as it is becoming essential to have marketing knowledge in any business context.

CIM is dedicated in assisting its members throughout their professional careers. Members also have the opportunity to become Chartered Marketers and eventually progress to the pinnacle of their careers as Fellows of the Institute.

CIM examinations are held four times a year in Colombo and Kandy, while five accredited study centers offer the qualification in Colombo, Kandy and Jaffna.  CIM UK readily provides information on studies as well as information pertaining job opportunities, seminars and conferences. CIM Sri Lanka Region organises versatile events such as the Annual Conference, CIM Talking Point Programmes, Strategic Level Workshops and Corporate Trainings specially catering to the key needs of its members.

The registration deadline for the June 2011 Exam is from 10 January 2011 to February 15 2011. Contact the CIM Regional Office on +94-0112564860 or simply visit www.cim.lk. The CIM office is located at No. 20 Deal Place ‘A’ Colombo 3.
