Since music in the Victorian era had begun to really spark interest in new songs and more performances, it was natural to see people create and write songs that revolved around Christmas.

It was during this time that many carol singers could be seen going from house to house singing the new songs of that time period, such as ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’, ‘O Come all ye Faithfu’l, and ‘Away in a Manger’.

The Galle Face Hotel, Colombo celebrates Victorian Christmas theme this year. The hotel has made elaborate plans for a wonderful evening of Christmas Carols which will be held on 17 December at the Verandah.

You could listen to all time favourite Christmas classics brought to life by the Rhythm Choir Calibre and Estelle Gunasekara’s Choir at the Galle Face Hotel during the evening.

Some of the most popular Christmas Carols like ‘Away in a Manger’ is always the first carol that children are taught. ‘Away in a Manger’ was originally published in 1885, ‘Hark the Herald Angels sing’, ‘Joy to the World’ – the world’s popular Christmas Carol which is based on Psalm 98 in the Bible, ‘Once in Royal David’s city’ and ‘Silent night’ will be sung by the Choristers on 17 December at the Verandah.

A delicious and a mouth-watering snack buffet with seasonal favourites will be on offer during Carols at the Verandah for all guests. It is priced at Rs. 500 nett per person. Santa Clause will also arrive at the hotel during Carols and will distribute sweets for kiddies who will be in the hotel on 17 December 2010.
