CAT 336D hydraulic excavator launched in Sri Lanka

A new Caterpillar hydraulic excavator capable of handling the work of two 20 Tonne excavators has been unveiled in Sri Lanka by the country’s longstanding Caterpillar representative, United Tractor and Equipment (UTE).

This massive excavator, from the global leader in construction machinery, is ideal for heavy duty excavation projects. It will contribute to the construction boom in the country by helping local contractors achieve significant increases in operational efficiency, the company said.

The 1.6m3 heavy-duty bucket of the Caterpillar 336D hydraulic excavator is nearly twice the capacity of a 20 Tonne class excavator bucket.

The new excavator also comes with a 6.5m heavy duty boom and 3.2m stick which enables it to be used for varying applications.

“This new machine is an important addition to the range of Caterpillar excavators sold and serviced by UTE,” said UTE Group Chairman and CEO Priath Fernando. “It represents a vast improvement in terms of features from the machines in use in the country at present.”

Measures have also been taken to enhance the machine’s performance. These include increased drawbar pull that will enable the 336D to do spot turns without difficulty, scale slopes and travel amidst poor underfoot conditions. Improved controllability enables easier levelling for fine grading, faster combined movements and superior joystick responsiveness.

The extended service interval for the main hydraulic return filter and features such as an Economy mode which reduces fuel consumption by 15 – 20 per cent while maintaining power and performance, are expected to lower owning and operating costs of the machine. Operator comfort of the Caterpillar has been increased by improving layout enabling better air flow and ventilation and increasing seat options.

New styling has given the excavator a distinct look while durability and versatility have also been heightened.

The 336D excavator was launched at a ceremony at the Hilton Colombo Residence and the machine on display at the event was purchased shortly thereafter, the company said.
