Trilingual music video captures spirit of Lankan victory BBDO Lanka is paying tribute to the 2014 ICC World Cup Twenty20 winning Sri Lankan cricket team with ‘Tropical Kings,’ a trilingual music video celebrating the victory and praising the entire Lankan cricket team for their grand achievement for the country. Sri Lanka recently became the reigning ICC Twenty20 champs by beating favourites and a former Twenty20 World Cup winner India with 13 balls and six wickets to spare at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This was the first time after the first 1996 ICC ODI (one-day-international) World Cup victory that Sri Lanka has brought home a World Cup trophy, despite having reached several finals, including the last consecutive four. "The music video for Tropical Kings can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnWLGGhB65c and is freely available to be listened to and shared by all." The victory sparked outpourings of joy and merriment across the island, with Sri Lankans coming out into the streets to celebrate with one another through the night, with celebrations even continuing through the week in some parts of the country. The Sri Lanka cricket team manager was also quoted as saying that the team had themselves been singing and celebrating for hours after the victory. BBDO Lanka MD Santosh Menon said: “Sri Lanka is very much a cricketing country – cricket is in the blood of Sri Lankans – and this Twenty20 World Cup victory means a great deal to each and every Sri Lankan. So we decided to create this song – Tropical Kings – sung in Sinhala, Tamil and English, to both celebrate this great triumph and show our gratitude to the Sri Lankan cricketing heroes who played for Sri Lanka and brought Sri Lankans this victory. We wanted to capture this historic moment in all its sporting glory.” The music video for Tropical Kings can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnWLGGhB65c and is freely available to be listened to and shared by all. It has even been shared by Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara on their respective Facebook pages. Said Menon, “We have created this song and video for everyone to enjoy and share. This will not be sold but distributed free of cost to media for exposure and for celebrating. This is our way of thanking the team for the truly amazing gift of the Twenty20 World Cup.” BBDO Lanka is the Sri Lankan affiliate of the global BBDO network and soon after only its first year of operations was awarded Campaign Asia-Pacific magazine’s ‘Rest of South Asia Creative Agency of the Year 2012’ – Silver. BBDO Lanka launched its Force for Good initiative in 2012 by becoming the first carbon neutral advertising agency in South Asia. It also launched Asia’s first ever mechanical air purifying billboard and contributed to Kumar Sangakkara’s ‘Bikes for Life’ initiative which provides children in the North with bikes and thus a means to get to school and not miss out on an education. It also teamed up with the iconic Lankan Country Music Federation concert for charity - Country Roads – contributing to the process of renovating three high courts to be used only for the hearing of child abuse and other juvenile cases as well as providing training for judicial staff on how to properly interact with the children.
