AAT Annual Conference from 7 to 8 October

The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL), the leading professional accountancy body in Sri Lanka, will hold its annual conference 2010 at the Hotel Galadari on 7 and 8 October 2010 on the theme ‘Maximising Tomorrow’s Opportunities’.

Objectives of the annual conference are updating the knowledge on the present economic environment in Sri Lanka and ensuring the continuous professional development of AAT members with a view to enhancing their career prospects. In that context ‘Maximising Tomorrow’s Opportunities’ is an ideal theme for this year’s conference.

Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka has been invited to inaugurate the sessions at 6 p.m. on Thursday, 7 October 2010, while Prof. W D Lakshman, Chairman – Presidential Commission on Taxation has been invited as the Guest of Honour and he will deliver the key note address at the ceremonial inauguration.

The foreign resource person who will be a major inducement at the 2010 Conference is Katauhiko Satoh, Special Advisor to Ford Japan Limited and President of the Dannya Association of Japan, a widely traveled personality who will be providing his firsthand experience in the growth of the Asian economy.

Technical sessions are scheduled to commence on Friday, 8 October 2010 from 8 a.m. and continue till 5 p.m. at which six technical papers will be discussed.

Key issues to be dealt with include ‘The Asian Growth Experience’ by Katsuhiko Satoh, President – Dannya Associations, Special Advisor – Ford Japan Limited, Senior Vice President – Fleishman – Hillard Japan; ‘Financing Tomorrow’s Opportunity’ by C.P. Abeywickrema, Deputy General Manager ,Hatton National Bank Ltd.; ‘Repositioning for Growth’ by Trevine Jayasekara, Group Finance Director, Brandix Lanka Limited; ‘Lean & Mean – A Managed Approach’ by Thilak Pushpakumara, CEO, Institute of Lean Management, Sri Lanka and ‘Tax Focus for Growing Entities’ by N.R. Gajendran, Partner, GAJMA & Co.

Three top business leaders will share their success stories as well. They are Raja Hewabowila, Chairman/Managing Director, Nippolac Group of Companies, Otara Gunewardena, CEO, Odel and W. K. H. Wegapitiya, Group Chairman, LAUGFS Holdings Limited.
