74th Annual Mount Lavinia Sea Swim to dazzle this weekend at MLH

Mount Lavinia Hotel has a history covering 200 years and holds a very important place in the historical records and heritage of Sri Lanka, positioned prominently in status along with an event that has gained recognition;

the 74th Annual Mount Lavinia Sea Swim organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Union will be held on 20th Feb 2011 on shores of Mount Lavinia Hotel.

“We are honoured to be a part of this global growth and a sport that indeed needs much recognition in our country and Mount Lavinia Hotel that boasts of a fabulous beach frontage can enable this kind of endurance sports to surface,” states Anura Dewapura, General Manager of Mount Lavinia Hotel. This year there are over 600 participants which is an encouraging factor that to brave the sea is a must when living in an island.

This ‘can-do’ and ‘get-up-and-go’ ambience enabled many open water events to be borne. While visionary and passionate swimmers like Akhry Ameer and Shehan De Alwis (Smurf) did the heavy leg work, focused on the logistics and Nethru Nanayakkara were instrumental in indirect ways.

The event will commence at 7am on the February 20,  2011 at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. This event is conducted under the aegis of the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union and hospitality partner is Mount Lavinia Hotel.

Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union is the governing body of Aquatic Sports in Sri Lanka and it comprises of water polo, diving, swimming, synchronised swimming and open water swimming.
