In a landmark agreement that augurs well for the local industry, the Sri Lankan paint giant Lankem Robbialac joined hands with the premier body safeguarding Sri Lankan construction standards, the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, as its Principal Partner for 2017.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Colombo last week at the Taj Samudra Hotel with the SLIA represented by its Senior Vice President Archt. D.H Wijewardena and Director of Lankem Ceylon PLC Ruwan T. Weerasinghe.

Speaking on the theme of ‘Architect 2017- Return of The City – Megastructure Redefined’, Director of Lankem Ceylon PLC Ruwan T. Weerasinghe said “the time for such a theme was very opportune in the current context with mega structures like luxury hotels and lifestyle apartment cities coming up within the city and we see the skyline of Colombo changing rapidly month after month”.

“I believe all of you as Sri Lankan architects should get involved in designing our mega structures from day one. With your local knowledge, you should be able to bring out a balance between the environment and concrete structures, always keeping in mind that we don’t want to create depressing concrete jungles that would bring out numerous socio-economic problems”, he added.

For the year 2017, Robbialac will be associated with the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects with all its events led by the Architects’ Exhibition which is scheduled for February 2017, along with other notable events such as the National Conference, Inauguration Ceremony and the Fellowship Night for Architects.

Archt. D.H. Wijewardena, Senior Vice President SLIA, welcomed Lankem Robbialac as Principal Sponsor saying “Partnerships are key to propel business momentums to great heights globally”.

“We warmly welcome Lankem Robbialac which has come back in a magnanimous manner by being our Principal Sponsor”, added Archt. Russell Dandeniya, Honorary Secretary of SLIA in his Vote of Thanks.

This is the first time Lankem has entered into such a strategic partnership with the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, the foremost entity for architecture in Sri Lanka, with a sponsorship of this nature.
