Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Members Sri Lanka Annual General Meeting and the Membership Forum 2020 will be held on Saturday 29 August at the Galle Face Hotel starting from 5.30 p.m.
The RIBA, the parental body of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, is a Professional body of Architects established in 1834, specifically for the Advancement of Architecture & Promotion of the acquirement of knowledge of the Arts & Sciences under its Charter.
RIBA is also the Premier Educational Regulatory Body and Authority that accredits the Education of Architecture World Over. In Sri Lanka, 3 of the 4 Schools of Architecture : the Moratuwa University, the City School of Architecture and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology - School of Architecture are accredited by the RIBA, giving it the desired recognition and stature.
The RIBA, being an International Body, decided to establish a Branch in Sri Lanka under the name of “RIBA Members : Sri Lanka”, which was Inaugurated by RIBA President Jane Duncan on 3rd August 2017 at Westminster House: British High Commissioner’s Residence in Colombo 07.
Most of the Prominent Professionals in the field of Architecture in the Island are Members of the RIBA .
The Annual General Meeting would take place at the Galle Face 2 Conference Room of the Regency Wing of the Galle Face Hotel from 5.30 pm - 6.30 pm.
The Membership Forum would follow the AGM at the Historic Cafe Area from 6.30 pm onwards, under the distinguished patronage of the Italian Ambassador Rita Guiliana Mannella Giorgi and her husband Ambassador Dominico Giorgi.
The Guest of Honor for the Occasion is Prof. Chitra Wedikkara, the first woman President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA).
Jane Duncan, RIBA Past President and Dr. Valeria Passetti, RIBA Vice President Membership (Nations and Regions) will address the gathering via Zoom from London as Guest Speakers, as well as Prof. David Gloster, RIBA Director Education, will be making a Special Presentation on “The Challenges facing Architectural Education and the Profession”, addressing the new Themes and Values for Architectural Education framework, developed for RIBA Validation.
This event will also celebrate the 14 candidates who successful acquired Membership of the RIBA upon completion of the Virtual MeAP Process, which took place during the Lockdown Period. Furthermore, Potential Candidates are invited for this event to pursue Membership of the RIBA, either via MeAP or otherwise.
