  • TMC Wisdom Quiz 2012 on 16 September

The Management Club has been an inspiring source for sharing and enhancing the knowledge of quizzing enthusiasts in Sri Lanka through their efforts in organising the TMC Wisdom Quiz for six consecutive years since September 2006.

Following the success of TMC’s Wisdom Quiz, the event that has now become one of the most sought after table quiz competitions in Sri Lanka, the seventh in the series – TMC-Wisdom Quiz 2012 – will be worked out this Sunday 16 September at the Grand Ballroom of the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo 3 from 3 p.m. onwards.

Partnering TMC on this knowledge development initiative would be CMI Sri Lanka branch, ICT Agency Sri Lanka, Link Natural Products, Imperial Institute of Higher Education and ICBT Campus.

With more than 37 teams already registered, it sure will be a keenly contested event as some new teams have also entered the fray to battle it out for the prestigious TMC Wisdom Trophy together with cash awards for the first five teams.

The competition will be conducted as a team event as in the past with five members per team and will be open to four sectors – Schools and educational institutions, public and mercantile firms, banks and financial institutions, and teams formed by individuals.

This year, there will be six rounds, with 10 questions to a round covering current affairs, sports and games, science, history/art/literature/entertainment and general knowledge and the sixth round on the Olympic Games.

The questions for the TMC Wisdom Quiz are set by Ruwan Senanayake, who is also a founder member of TMC, who has ensured that they have always been of a very high standard. In fact the TMC Quiz pioneered the concept of adding visuals and video clips as clues for some questions – making it very entertaining even for those witnessing the event, though not as contestants.

Senanayake is the Sri Lanka representative of the International Quizzing Association and it is in conjunction with IQA Sri Lanka that the TMC Wisdom Quiz has been conducted from the inception.

The fact that tie breaker rounds have been required to decide the top slots, almost on all the occasions, bears ample testimony to the competitive spirit in which this quiz event has always been worked out. The meticulous arrangements and the seriousness with which the event has been conducted have always come in for praise by the participants.

The keen enthusiasm of the participants at each successive year has encouraged TMC to increase the prize money of the quiz and the overall winners of TMC Wisdom 2012 will be awarded a cash prize of          Rs. 100,000 in addition to the TMC Wisdom Trophy. The runners-up will receive Rs. 50,000 and a trophy. The third, fourth and fifth placed teams will be awarded cash prizes of Rs. 30,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively.

Entries for TMC Wisdom 2012 have been pouring in during the past few weeks, and the organisers have found it difficult to accommodate all of them, due to space constraints.

TMC’s Wisdom Quiz has always been known for one unique feature, the enthusiasm of the participants – which is one common feature among a mix of individuals from young and the not-so-young, working and non-working people alike who have year after year enjoyed this interesting experience over the past six years.

With just a few days to go, those interested in witnessing this event can obtain information about the quiz by calling 0777-418191.
