The prestigious Seatrade awards ceremony organised in parallel to the Sri Lanka Ports Trade and Logistics Conference and Exhibition 2012 was held with the initiative of Hambantota District Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa on Tuesday at the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo.
Seatrade 2012 proposed six prestigious awards, of which the best three were awarded to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. The first, the ‘Seatrade Maritime Infrastructure Award,’ was awarded to Magam Ruhunupura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port (MRMRP) in Hambantota. SLPA Southern Port Development Chief Engineer Agil Hewageegana received the award on behalf of the SLPA.
The ‘Seatrade Personality of the Year’ award was won by SLPA Chairman Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama. The SLPA Chairman also won the ‘Seatrade Young Person International Award’ in Dubai last year.
A former SLPA MD, D. Godage, who performed a lifetime of dedicated service to the maritime sector of Sri Lanka, was awarded the ‘Seatrade Lifetime Achievement Award’.
Being a State-run institute dedicated to making Sri Lanka the maritime hub in the region, SLPA was glorified and honoured as an exemplary public sector institute with these three prestigious Seatrade awards at the ceremony.
The other three prestigious Seatrade awards, namely, the Seatrade Education and Training Award, Seatrade Shipping Agent Award and the Seatrade Shipping Line of the Year Award were awarded to the Mercantile Seamen Training Institute, McLarens Shipping and MSC (Sri Lanka) respectively. Mercantile Seamen Training Institute MD Capt. Rohan Kodippili, McLarens Shipping MD Rohan De Silva and MSC (Sri Lanka) Director Romesh De Livera received the awards on behalf of the respective institutes.
The Seatrade award ceremony was attended by a large number of key personalities in the domestic and international maritime, trade and logistics sector and was followed by a cocktail reception dinner sponsored by CLASSNK.
