The Sri Lanka Institute of Interior Designers (Incorporated by an Act of Parliament) has already expanded its Membership to include The Educational Institutes and Industry Members as affiliates, to categorise the Regular Members as Associates and Fellows considering Educational Qualifications and Experience.
The event focused on many events and displays, model room settings, interior industry stalls, festive decorations, arts and crafts, etc., making a colourful display.
Awards were presented to the Best Displays as well as Outstanding of the achievement were specially presented to H. Don Carolis & Sons for their performance for nearly 154 years.
Raux Brothers was also recognised with an Outstanding Award for the Best Furniture Store, Modern and Culturally Inspiring. Outstanding Achievements in Crafts were also recognised on five Craftspeople from different sectors. Honorary Fellow Memberships were conferred on Dr. Nandadasa Narayana, Prof. Nimal de Silva, Eric Suriyasena, Dayasiri Warnakulasooriya and Senaka de Silva. As in the past the event was highly commended.
The event was a key step forward to meet the challenges of the industry and stabilise the future for success of the interior designers and the industry.
“We are happy that many have stretched their hands in support of the above events as a futuristic need for the success of the interior design field,” says Swarna Obeyesekere, Chairperson of The Sri Lanka Institute of Interior Designers.
The attention of the SLIID is also directed towards the following aspects for the upliftment of the field of interior design:
Interior design training and workshops for advancement of industry staff Action on quality certification and patent rights on design branding Design awards for innovative ideas, quality products and best interior displays
Interior design related projects for tourism industry (festival decorations, icons for sites of tourist interest in Sri Lanka, national identity promotion for hotel interiors, promotion of special Sri Lankan souvenir shops)
Special recognition for outstanding achievement in the interior and craft sector industries ad enterprises Design and business forums for development of the interior industry
