Small & Tiny Industries Association from Tamil Nadu and FCCISL discuss trade

A delegation from Tamilnadu Small & Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) visited Sri Lanka from 23 - 27 January 2011. TANSTIA is the apex body of small scale and micro industries in Tamilnadu recognised both by State and Central Government. TANSTIA is collectively representing the interests and serving this sector since the year 1956.

All the District, Industrial Estate and Product wise Associations are affiliated to TANSTIA.

This delegation had a fruitful discussion with President and Senior Officials of FCCISL on 26 January at the FCCISL. The delegation comprised of more than 20 companies representing several product and services such as automobile components, rubber products, tourism, wood products, printing, wire products, material handling equipments, air conditioners, engineering services, convey services and industrial sheet metal works. During the discussion, they showed interest in investing in Sri Lanka in order to benefit from the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement.  

The outcome of a subsequent meeting Tissa Jayaweera had with Geethanjana Gunawardane, Deputy Minister of Finance on the possibility of allocating lands to these entrepreneurs for the establishment of Industrial Units in Sri Lanka was conveyed to the President of TANSTIA and a response from them was awaited to arrange a meeting with the Minister for potential investors from India.
