Signal-boosting umbrella to charge your cellphone

London: Vodafone has created an umbrella that boosts your signal, charges your handset and can even keep you dry during the traditionally aqueous British summer.

The multi-purpose gadget named Booster Brolly is set to be trailed at the Isle of Wight Festival in on June 22nd.

The design allows for one handset to charge through a USB port in the brolly handle.

However, any friends making calls from under the canopy could also benefit from the umbrella’s signal boosting functionality, as the 3G signal is wireless.

‘We wanted to create a practical but high tech innovation that could genuinely improve a festival-goers experience,’ the Mirror quoted Danielle Crook, Director of Brand Marketing at Vodafone, as saying.

‘The concept Booster Brolly does just that by merging cutting edge technology with a trusted and reliable British umbrella,’ Crook added.

Right now the idea is only a prototype, which has been created in partnership with University College London, but Vodaphone VIP customers will be able to test the device from June 22nd at the Isle of Wight Festival. (ANI)
