Consistently and courageously championing the green cause, the Siddhalepa Group has been among the country’s annual environment award winners in the past few years.
At the recent Presidential Environmental Awards 2016 too, the Hettigoda Industries was recognised for its commitment to the environment in the Industries category with a merit award.
Together with the merit award, the company won the first place in tier 4, for the Best Green Report for 2015, with their very first submission.
Following an international system, The National Green Reporting System evaluates industries’ green reporting systems on a series of 50 indicators which include 24 environment indicators, 20 social indicators, and six economic indicators. The reporting system provides five tiers under which an organisation can report their performance. Tier four requires reporting in 20 categories with at least one from economic, one from social and three from environmental categories in their submissions.
The economic performance indicators are used to analyse present and future economic performance of the manufacturing and services sector. Environment indicators are used to measure the sustainability of performance of resources used, waste management and emission control. Social performance indicators are used to assess the effectiveness of policy in addressing important social issues.
“Our award and our top place for green reporting reflect our commitment to nature,” said Director Lankani Hettigoda who received the award on behalf of the Group. “This award and the awards won in the past are testimony to our commitment to a sustainable living,” she added.
The Siddhalepa Group has a long history of gaining recognition at Environment Awards. The Group has been among the winners at the National Cleaner Production Awards for water efficiency, material efficiency and production practices from 2009 to 2011 and won a Green Award for the second consecutive year.
