The Raffles Design Institute held its Convocation for their pioneering batch in style, delivering a great finale to one of the most innovative fashion shows to be conducted in Sri Lanka.

The innovative designs displayed with 3 unique endings to each segment was the combined effort of the graduates in fashion design as well as the direction provided by the world renowned designers Dinesh Chandrasena and Andrea Lonhardt Muresan - lecturers at Raffles, Colombo.  The Fashion show was preceded by an exhilarating video presentation and exhibition by the grandaunts in Multimedia and Graphic design and directed by Nathan Ober-Lecturer at Raffles, Colombo.

The Chief Guest for the event - Prof. Steve Rawlinson, delivered a unique and interactive speech on dedication, perseverance, achievement and celebration of all efforts combined, followed by Academic Director Prof. Julie Ross delivering a heartwarming speech to the graduates as she bid farewell to them.

The College Director at Raffles – Colombo, Alex Quah, addressed the audience with a speech that challenged the mindset on the topic of private education in Sri Lanka while giving the audience a true understanding of the weight that the name “Raffles” carries globally.

“Our students and graduates fresh from the oven were hunted by employers even before they graduated. It’s a true story, talk to our graduates; Most have their hands full just before graduating only at an Advance Diploma level, imagine if they graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree? Studying with Raffles is not just a passport or a license to get employed but also a guarantee that you are bound for success” said Quah.  “Examples such as Anjali Kaunatilake, Isuru David, Melissa Jayatilake and Christiana De-Silva are some of the many stories of our students who have experienced this demand as well as achievement, equipped with only an Advance Diploma in hand. Our Best Student award winner Samal Bandara is a true Ambassador globally for Raffles and the quality of individuals we produce” he added.

Continuing his speech, Quah explained the future of Raffles as a premier higher education provider in Sri Lanka. “Raffles Education Corporation signed an Agreement with the Board of Investment last month to set up a University College in Sri Lanka.  Raffles Education Corporation has received in-principle approval for the establishment of a University from the Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka to deliver a Bachelor’s Degree program.  Our own fully owned University College by Raffles Education, recognized internationally for the purpose to serve and contribute to the development of Sri Lanka”.
