Public in Kandy to benefit from personalised construction advice through building clinic

A Building Clinic, initiative of Civil Engineering Sectional Committee of the Institution of Engineers of Sri Lanka is being taken directly to the public in Kandy by sponsorship of UltraTech Cement Sri Lanka, as their fifth initiative of a series of island-wide programs.

The Building Clinic will be organised on Saturday, 30 January at the E.L. Senanayake Library. The public is invited to visit the Building Clinic and avail themselves of bespoke expert construction advice and education on house construction, completely free of charge.

This unique Building Clinic will function similarly to that of a medical one. Individual home builders, contractors, masons and any interested persons attending the clinic will be welcomed by facilitating engineers who will direct them to the relevant expert workstation based on the nature of their query or clarification. The panel of professionals on call at the Building Clinic will offer advice on an entire range of construction related areas such as land selection, geo- technical issues, building services, structural designs, electrical, plumbing and sewage related issues. The Building Clinic is aimed to bring personalised engineering advice and construction experience to those unable to readily access expert information from seasoned professionals. This one-on-one interaction will provide an excellent opportunity for prospective home builders and industry personnel to obtain information about best construction practices, dispel any building myths, present any construction problems and obtain personalised expert advice directly from industry professionals. The panel of construction experts will be sourced from the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka’s Civil Engineering Sectional Committee chaired by Eng. Niyaz Samad.

“Building clinics have become a unique property of Civil Engineering Sectional Committee of Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, sponsored by UltraTech Cement and this is the fifth occasion we are conducting one. There is often an information gap between the construction industry and individual home builders and building clinics aspire to add value to the industry by bridging this gap. It is always imperative for home builders to arm themselves with pertinent information before embarking on construction. This helps evade common construction pitfalls and wastage in expenditure and resources while ensuring cost-conscious, specific home building free of defects,” commented UltraTech Cement Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Kiran Redkar.

Previously four building clinics were held in Maharagama, Galle, Gampaha and Kurunegala which attracted a large number of enthusiastic individual home builders from the areas.
