Improving energy performance and reducing energy costs is one of the most important tasks that organisations throughout the world aim to achieve. ISO 50001 on energy management can help organisations with this target.Since its publication five years ago, ISO 50001 has gained much importance.
In fact, nearly 7000 organisations were already certified to the standard at the end of 2014.
ISO 50001, Energy management systems – Requirements with guidance for use, specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an energy management system. The aim is to enable an organisation to follow a systematic approach in achieving continual improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption.
After five years of existence, time has come to revise ISO 50001 to ensure it remains a useful tool for all types of businesses and organisations around the world. This week, experts from nearly 30 countries are meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss and advance the revision work. The event is hosted by the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS), the ISO member for country.
During the week and on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of ISO 50001, SIS and the Swedish Energy Agency, in cooperation with ISO, are organising an international conference to highlight the value of energy management systems, and share experiences and good practice.
