The Hirdaramani Group marks yet another milestone in its commitment to sustainable manufacturing with the awarding of LEED Gold Certification to one of its largest factories, Hirdaramani Industries Kuruwita (HI Kuruwita). The conversion of the factory commenced in early 2013. “Obtaining LEED certification within a 12 month period was a daunting challenge and we are very proud of the of the HI Kuruwita team for achieving this target,” said Tony Nadaraja, Director of the Hirdaramani Group & CEO of the Woven Cluster. “We are also thankful to Co-energi who audited and consulted on this project for their excellent guidance,” he added. Key results from the factory include a 57% reduction in water consumption, a reduction of monthly electricity consumption by 37800kWh and an astounding 99.9% of waste being reused or recycled and diverted away from landfills. Some of the key features of the factory conversion include the installation of an evaporative cooling system, prismatic skylights system and reflective roofing system. The factory also boasts 36% renewable energy production on site via its biomass boiler system. “Social responsibility has always been an essential philosophy at Hirdaramani and the environment has become a major element of this agenda. The certification of HI Kuruwita is part of Hirdaramani’s overall Sustainability Strategy which is being implemented across all factories within the Group and we hope to have many more milestones in the near future,” said Aroon Hirdaramani, Director of the Hirdaramani Group. Hirdaramani proudly holds the notable achievements of having the World’s First Custom Built Eco Friendly Apparel Factory and Asia’s First CarbonNeutral Apparel factory in its portfolio, laying credence to the Group’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
