Cinnamon Grand Colombo as part of its ongoing staff education and awareness on sustainability invited a team of personnel from the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) to educate staff on the importance of reducing water wastage. Aptly titled ‘How to reduce your water bill at home and office’, the one hour session emphasised the importance of water conservation and cultivating the habit of productive use.
The target audience was from areas in the hotel that account for high water usage, given the nature of the operations concerned. These included staff from the kitchen, laundry, gardening and the Angsana spa, where water consumption is high. The interactive and insightful one- hour session, covered a range of topics which included tips by the Water Board Team of experts on how to save water in our day to day activities, water – its historical, modern day and future significance, water quality and purification, water wars that could occur and most importantly water usage and wastage in the Sri Lankan context, that result in the depletion of this precious resource and money.
The NWSDB team also showed staff on how they can reduce their water bill through more conscious consumption patterns! The awareness session was attended by over 100 associates and was linked to the Hotel’s Green Forum, which aims at providing a platform of environmental learning for the hotel’s staff. The Water Board Team comprised Senior Public Relations Officer Sarathchandra Mutubanda, Chemist F.L. Kaleimani, Marketing Manager Piyal Padmanatha and Public Relations Officer Devika Bandara.
