Geologists’ permission compulsory for construction in landslide prone areas

The Ministry of Disaster Management has issued a circular making the permission of the geologists of the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) mandatory for building houses in the landslide prone areas.

Accordingly, the geologists should approve the land as a safe place for building houses and other constructions.



The local councils should monitor the constructions are being done in line with the recommendations of the NBRO.

Local government bodies that approve the building plans without the due permission from the NBRO are liable to pay damages occur after the construction to the Government.  The circular is issued by the Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and it will be effective from 15 March.
