The Institute of Environmental Professionals Sri Lanka (IEPSL) together with the Sri Lanka Business and Biodiversity (SL B&B) Platform of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Base for Enthusiasts of Environmental Science and Zoology (BEEZ) of the University of Colombo will host an expert forum on ‘Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.’ to mark World Environment Day (WED), in keeping with the UN designated theme for 2015. The public event will be held on 5 June from 3:30 p.m. onwards at the Senate Hall, College House, University of Colombo, 94, Cumaratunga Munidasa Mawatha, Colombo 03.
The keynote address will be made by Project Director of the Coordinating Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation Prof. Ajith P. de Alwis, followed by a discussion amongst eminent panellists representing the government sector, academia and the private sector of Sri Lanka.
The panellists will include IEPSL Council Member and National Cleaner Production Centre Chief Executive Officer Eng. V.R. Sena Peiris, University of Colombo Faculty of Science Department of Zoology Head Dr. Nirmalie Pallewatte, Virtusa Ltd Director Denver De Zylva, Informatics Holdings Ltd Group Managing Director Hiran Wickramasinghe and Diesel and Motor Engineering PLC Business Development and Stakeholder Interactions Head Prabodha Silva.
WED is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanising individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet.
