Thenewly-reopened Chaaya Tranz is a celebration of the liberal lifestyle of Hikkaduwa. The property launch was full of colour, light and entertainment.
The musical entertainment for the night was specially flown in from Norway, ‘Kohinoor’ the six member band played music which was a mix between world music and dance hall with a touch of the Rasta philosophy.
Kohinoor, the band leader, was born in Dacca, Bangladesh and migrated to Norway when she was three-and-a-half years old. At the age of 12 she started to perform as a dancer. This led to various parts in different musicals.
In her heart though, she wanted to express something deeper than what the musicals could offer. Kohinoor went by herself to distant places, there amongst her motherland Bangladesh and Jamaica where she learned about rhythm and spiritual music. Her style is a mix between world music and dance hall.
The band consists of five other members; Simen Robertsen, keyboard player, Monica Rennan Hjelle and Camilla Veie-Rosvoll, back-up singers, Andre Bravo as the DJ and Chris Dhason as the percussionist. The band entertained the gathering with the music and performance of a unique amalgamation of music.Chaaya Tranz is a resort that imbues every unique facet that makes the beachside destination of Hikka special.
