Asia Teas Ltd., on Tuesday launched Ayubovan Tea, aimed at providing high quality product to the Sri Lankan consumer.
The teas blended in to Ayubovan Tea are finest tasting teas from the hill country. The term Ayubovan Tea was selected to express the true roots of the tea and to signify the proud heritage of the country.
Sadaharitha Plantations Ltd., Chairman Sathis Nawarathne stated that the Sri Lankan consumer is deprived from the opportunity to have a cup of high quality tea because high quality tea is exported to foreign countries.
“The British who started tea plantations in the Sri Lanka exported most of the high quality tea to their native land. The leftovers from the exports which were low in quality were sold to us. This tradition has been going even after the British companies left the country,” Nawarathne added.
He went on to say that even today, a major share of the Sri Lankan tea market is controlled by foreign companies and therefore there is no justice for the local consumer.
“The philosophy of our company is to provide the best for the people in the country and this is also the foundation that we have built upon. Ayubovan Tea symbolises the tea of a proud and unbowed country and its people who believe that they are worthy of the best” professed Nawarathne.
Musician Billy Fernando was appointed as the brand ambassador of Ayubovan Tea.
